Curse of the Dyslexic Genie -an apology.

Postby Brunswick on Mon Jun 13, 2005 10:07 pm

I started this comic nine hours late!

After getting some deadline stuff out of the way on Sunday I started at 10pm NZ time, which I think is 8pm EST.

I only wrote about three pages before I started drawing. To save time I drew very fast with a single Staedtler brush pen, with detail like eyeballs added with a pigment liner. After getting the 'corral' part of the story out of the way I just started making up stuff, which is why it doesn't make any sense whatsover.

The longest break I took was half an hour, which is probably breaking some workspace health and safety guideline, but it was the only way I could finish in time. I finished drawing at 2pm Monday and started adding text and shading in Photoshop. I hadn't written much of the dialogue except for the supposed 'jokes', so I just filled in the speech bubbles as I went. Again, that explains a lot. I finished just before 10pm and resized everything for this posting. And then sat back and read it together for the first time.

Oh, God.

The content of this strip is me dumping whatever crossed my mind in the past 24 hours onto the page. Most of my work is slightly more coherent. I'm in no condition to anticipate anyone's reaction to this. I know it has an equal amount of funny and boring bits in it.

Hooray for experimental comics.

Oh, and I don't mean to offend anyone with the title. I know a lot of artists are dyslexic. I just wanted it to sound like a thriller story. "Some Meaningless Crap That Jumps Around A Lot With A Few Funny Bits But On The Whole, WTF?" didn't fit in the subject box.

I hope you enjoyed some bits of it.

Ha ha! This was great. I actually laughed out loud in a few places. Very well written. Some of the conversations were too realistic to even comprehend. Even I wanted to get up and go to the bathroom just to clear my head. And I agree with Jase, the Freemasons joke was fantastic. This simple style of art is my favourite.

Again... Great.

Thank you for the nice comments. It's going to take me days to work out what I've actually done here and whether or not I like it... I should have called it 'It Seemed A Good Idea At The Time'.

I'm a fan of the inside voice gag. a really good peice that had a nice structure, which is amazing since it was done on the fly.

By not taking proper breaks, and setting up an assembly line process that would make Henry Ford wet himself with glee. And by not bothering with details such as backgrounds, shading or sense. And I'm very familiar with the characters, so I didn't have to spend time creating anything except for the setup.

Wow fully inked and photoshopped in 24 hours is pretty impressive even if you did "know" the characters - nice style you've got there - I did like the finding the cockroaches in the kitchen and the mirage joke too
