Comikaze 24 Hour Challenge... what's in a name?

Postby Troy Kealley on Fri Apr 13, 2007 1:31 pm

Ok so we're about to kick this all off - but first of all we want to make sure everyone is happy with the name! I think there's a general consensus to go back towards the original OzComics name (and the new domain owners are happy for us to use this name) but at the same time we want this to be an independant event and not tied to one particular website/forum.

So here's some options - let's wrap this up quick so we can get started!

If you want it to be independent, why not come up with a new name altogether? Don't get me wrong... I like OzComics 24 Hour Challenge, but if thinking of a new name, does it even NEED Oz/Aus in there anywhere? It's certainly geared toward us, but anyone can enter, right? We've had overseas players in the past.

If it hasn't been used anywhere else, I vote for...

24 Hour Comikaze. :p

(As in... kamikaze? Too obscure? Bah...!) :D BRING IT ON! :D

I agree with Sketchy that it should be open and not Aust in name but why not call it what everyone will actually call it?

24 hour (comic) challenge?

Yes, what those guys said (and I must admit seeing Pulp Faction is hosting it it seems a bit confusing calling it after another forum)

Just to interject a thought about "aussie/not aussie", don't forget just how many of these things there are in the US (and, therefore, the web). If we call it something too generic, we'll be lost in the sea of genericness. It is, I think, an australian event in that, historically, the prizes have only been available for australian residents (because shipping is a pain in the @$%^@ ass).

But as long as the name is unique, I don't care what it is, personally. I do hope it ends up being something that's not tied to any one site or company or whatnot.

Just my 2 cents.

PS - I'm not arguing for Oz/Aus in the name, but I would point out that it hasn't stopped people from elsewhere from participating.

UPDATE:

Well, perhaps I was too quick to judge. Apparently, rumpus my good man, the domain names 24hourComicChallenge.com and 24hrComicChallenge.com are both available. Or should I say were. I thought for sure they'd be taken (all the other good ones are).

So no matter what name we decide on, those two are secured for our use, if we like, and will point to the site whatever it's called.

And to reiterate what I said in the podcast, if the challenge moves somewhere else one day, I will hand over all the domains to whomever is running the show. The challenge belongs to everyone.

I went for 24 hr Comic Challenge even though I think OzComics 24 hr Comic Challenge would be a very close second. For myself, I'm kinda on the fence whether if we should have the name or mention "Australia" of some form in the name of our challenge.

But I guess if we have it as the "24 hr Comic Challenge" on Pulp Faction, people should get the idea anyway. Just my 2 cents and typing out loud.

Why I don't google things before asking questions...

I can't decide. I think they are all kinda boring really.

I think it should be a completely new name, and the name should be good. Sketchy's "Comikaze" is, in my opinion, the best suggestion so far... but I can't vote for it, because it's not up there on the clickey thing.

It should be something creative like that, not just a bland description of exactly what it is. And Comikaze works for me, because from my tattered recollection of last year's event... I nearly killed myself trying to get it finished.

Add it up there and I'll vote for that.
