Robin Tatlow-Lord-Hail to the Keith-Adelaide-24p-FINISHEDish

Postby robin t-lord on Sun Jun 12, 2011 4:04 pm

Okay! Wow, I'm really nervous! But I'm gonna start right now - with the 4pm words (3:30pm Adelaide time) wkich are:

'Elect'
'Screwing'
and
'Engage'

... hmmmm. Nothing's popping to mind; I could do with a nice noun right about now! But I'll do my best!

Time for planning and thumbnails... wish me luck :-)

Go Robin!

..."screwing" would be ripe with possibilities if you were in the Mature section.

Thanks guys!

Owen: I was certainly tempted... but definitely sticking to the 'all ages' category. More of a challenge in this case!

One hour in, and I've got a nice little story planned out. Sure, it developed mainly out of puns, but I think it's found it's own shape now! Gonna spend a couple hours on roughs (which i didn't do last year), so I guess it'll be a while before I have any finished pages to post.

toodles!

If you can, once you've posted the full comic, any chance of also scanning/posting your planning as well? It's always interesting to read everyone's approach.
What, a sig? I'll get to that later.

sure, I'll try to do that once I'm finished (and have slept :-)

WELL it's a third of the way into my time and I've just finished... 24 ROUGHS! They took way longer than I had hoped. Now for the finals! Now... so long as I EITHER make my finals 20% faster than I expected, OR don't sleep at all, I SHOULD be able to finish this on time!

The Beastie Boys are helping A LOT!

Heyy... Is it a problem (in terms of my entry counting) that I haven't posted anything yet?

It's not a problem that you haven't posted anything yet - you could post all 24 pages at the last minute and it would still count.

What Owen said - as long as it's up before the deadline - it's all good!

Okay. Went a bit crazy-overtired for awhile there, then slept a bit, then, still in a sleepy fugue, locked myself out of both my house and my studio for a couple of hours! So needless to say, I'm unlikely to finish this story, but here are the ten pages I've completed!

Now, because I've been working in spreads and didn't want to post them separately, they're a bit small - both here and on my site. I didn't know how else to get the whole spread to display together. But I realise they're barely readable... perhaps I'll work out a better system later; any suggestions? Also they're photos, not scans, and thus a bit dodgy! OH WELL - better than nothing, hey?

THAT'S IT I'M POSTING ROUGHS!

*NOTE this page should actually say "the SECOND challenge". This is a page that I 'finished' in biro while I was locked out of my house and studio, and I was thinking about cutting the story down to 16 pages, in which case there would only be two challenges, and this would be the first one (i.e. 'soccer skills' would be cut). But then I forgot to fix it before scannig the roughs. OH WELL!

Aw yiss!

I think we were both pretty tired when I spoke to you, but at least I didn't lock myself out of the house!

Lovely, heart-warming stuff! And your art is always loose and expressive anyway, so it works well under the pressure of the challenge. I do hope you finish it!

I don't think there's an easy way to post spreads on the forum in legibly sized way, so your best bet might be separating the pages, even if it does work against your layouts. (All the pages so far would look fine split I think, but any pages where the tiers are read across both pages would need to be kept together.)

Yay Keith! Yay rough sketches!

Now that I've read the whole thing, I'm going to repeat my "lovely and heart-warming" comment. And now I want to see it drawn properly more than ever!

And like Connell said earlier, it's interesting to look at people's working methods - your layouts have so much more detailed art in them than mine (mine often don't even have stick figures), but my dialogue is a lot more set in stone than yours obviously is.
