Cecilia Mok - Through the Woods - Sydney Finished

Postby pomegranate on Sun Jun 13, 2010 7:40 am

Hey all ^_^ This year I was supposed to be far more organised than last year, with more pages and better graphics, but I ended up having to streamline - gah! Maybe third times the charm. Anyway, my words were Woods, Javelin, and Picking (one of those was used more symbolically than literally). I had 14 pages including two double pages, so I'm not sure if that counts as 16 pages? Ah you guys would know. Anyway, I'm enjoying looking through everyone's. I love the huge challenge and learning to wing it more, and also hearing about everyone else's processes, trials, and triumphs!

For now, I better try to grab an hour of sleep before I have to get to my next appointment! @_@

Nicely surreal and pretty - the use of the colour at the end was quite inspired.

I like it. The art has a haunting quality and the use of colour was very well handled.

It's so lovely! You know how much I love whimsy, and the silence is very evocative - like those children's stories that are sort of beautiful and sort of creepy... I love the teapot trees and the giant, sleepy fish!

Ooh. I like how very simple it is. The minimalism makes it pretty sweet.

Lovely idea and very cute art. That tree is gorgeous. ^_^

Really? The teacup birds freaked me the hell out... I'm going to worry every time I drink a cuppa now! O_o

But yeah, I can totally see text to go along with this that'd make it one of those childrens' stories that seem all sweet and poetic, but are actually amazingly creepy and profound, like The Butter Battle Book.

I loved how the page layout had a very Edward Gory sort of feel, yet completely managed to avoid his style with a far cleaner look.

Thanks so much for your lovely comments, particularly the notes about the Dr Seuss book and Edward Gorey – great styles and I will definitely have to chase them up further.

It’s really nice and encouraging to hear when someone has enjoyed reading the story ^_^
