2012 Challenge - Early call for volunteers

Postby maggie on Fri May 11, 2012 1:20 pm

Since Troy usually ends up doing all the heavy lifting, I thought I'd pop, lend a hand and get you all thinking about the impending 24 hour challenge. Anyone interested in volunteering to help (round up prizes, rustle up a banner/poster contest, or just 'whatever is needed') please chime in. And if there's anything you didn't like last year or wish we'd do this year [bearing in mind we all do this for free in our spare time], speak up now.

Registration hasn't started yet, but will soon(ish) at http://comikaze24.com/

Ta!

I don't think I'll be able to participate this year, so I might be able to rustle up some prizes.

I'll be at a small show in Vancouver at the end of the month. I'll see what fun, signed, goodies I can pick up from artists. There'll be a whole ton of small press stuff there mostly unavailable in Australia.

I can always throw in a copy of Max too, but this is meant to be prizes. I see no mention of the word 'booby' before it.

Yeah sadly I just don't have the bandwidth for running the event this year. I don't even know if I'll get time to participate at all! But I'll be around to assist where needed.

Right then! Troy's set the bar for self-less sacrifice in the interest of 24 Hour Awesome. Do you has?
You got what it takes to step into his shoes? Do ya? Then speak right up, yo! :)

If you'd like to take on some of the heavy lifting of organization and running this year, speak up here or, if you'd rather, DM Ive or me directly. :|>

And huge thanks to Troy for putting so much time into the challenge over the years. You deserver a flipping' medal, my friend. ...wonder what it costs to have a medal made... hehe :)

Ok at this late stage - and if anyone feels different please speak up now - we will make the event 'just for fun' this. So that means no prizes or judging, just a poll for deciding the bragging-rights winners, and a weekend of laughs.

Volunteers can help by announcing to the various communities the date and venue, helping with the hourly random words thread and questions, and generally cheering people on. So between a few people it's not a lot of effort to keep this great tradition going. Please feel free to PM for more details.

Oh and someone make us a new banner pronto! I will personally send a prize to the person who can knock up the best new banner in the next 48 hours - go go go!

I think "just for fun" is the most sensible path.

Not entirely sure what my fate is for that weekend (now with our third bubs recently joining us).

I'll send you a message, Troy.
I shouldn't be here.

I'd be tempted to volunteer but am not sure that I'd be reliable. I have a commitment to go to a nightclub with a friend I haven't seen in some time. Sounds trivial but it's a commitment all the same. Also my health is not good just now, so I suspect if I enter it'll be an 8 or 16 page format. However, I do like to ADVERTISE the Challenge on different forums, live journal and facebook. Once http://comikaze24.com/ is set-up for registrations, I'll do just that!

Sorry for not getting back in here sooner. So I'm all for Troy's idea (and you just can't stay away, can ya! hehehe)

But, I'd still like to give out a couple of prizes. Daniel committed to providing a Supanova table as a prize and, as long as that's still on, I'd still like to make sure someone gets that. And Manga Arts & Copic Fantasy/Comic Art supply have also expressed interest in providing prizes. We'll sort out how to decide that... maybe I'll claim regent privilege in honor of the Queen and just decide whot ogive the prizes to myself. hehe ANYway!

I'm opening up registration.... NOW!

Fixed. Thanks. I tried to make it more generic so as to avoid this in future, but I missed this one.
