Comikaze 2008 Voting is now open!

Postby Troy Kealley on Tue Jun 17, 2008 10:05 pm

Ok folks time to pick some winners from a pretty stunning field. Although numbers were slightly lower due to a late start, the quality was through the roof! Here's how this years voting will work:
1. Download the attached voting slip
2. Fill in your preferences for each category. That means type a 1 next to your first preference for the winner of the category, and a 2 for your second preference. Simplest way to do this is to use any text editor/word processing application!
3. Email the completed form to the secret Comikaze 2008 voting address included in the form.

Easy! Well I think it is - but if you have ANY questions - ask here.

Note that only Maggie, the judges, and myself will have access to this. Our other helpers - Trev, Ant, and of course Ive - are still in the running for public-vote prizes if you the voting public deem them worthy ('cause I sure as hell do!)

Here's the contenders list:

I wouldn't think so, Trev. Not with me helping out, unfortunately. Sorry Dave! :)

Thanks for categorising them all Troy, makes our judging jobs easier too! Now I can just move down the list, rather than jump all over the place. Neato! ... Well... I'm still jumping all over the place, but that's a medical issue...

I'm off to read! :D

I'm not sorry! It was great to challenge myself and even greater to be working with such a talented individual - the way I see it, I've already been rewarded for participating :)

Sounds like a good idea to me, especially given the number of onlookers/lurkers Comikaze brings out who might have returned to visiting irregularly a week after it's over (I know I'm here much less frequently outside the Queen's Birthday weekend). The more votes the better, right? Or is there some Pulp Faction rule against mass mailouts, even once a year?

Another question - I still have a few entries left to read (it's taking forever now because I chewed through my bandwidth and my internet's been slowed right down), so when is the cutoff date for the end of voting going to be?

This year the entries have been fantastic. Today I sat down and read all the 24 page comics and time just flew by, it was such a pleasure to read all of them. I'm particularly impressed with the number of comics that had good narrative, be that the weird spontaneous exploratory kind or the plotted out kind. Great art, legible lettering (thankyouthankyouthankyou), good stories, strong sense of character. The Aussie Comics community has got a lot to be proud of.The organisers have a lot to be proud of. Our readership has a lot of gems to read and I hope we get more good stuff out there.

This year I haven't had time to write individual crits, but most of them would be squees of delight, except for a few sad sounds, and in one case the sound of my brain tearing (evildan you are a strange strange man). Everyone who has entered previously has shown noticeable improvements and ya'll just awesome. It just makes the job of ranking entries way to hard.
