Dave Kerr - Swimmin' with da Fishies - Mie, Japan - 10pg FIN

Postby Ka-ru on Sat Jun 07, 2008 10:32 pm

I've just got home from working a 14 hour day that culminated in me standing in front of hundreds of people on a stage, trying to smile nicely while ignoring the bug that had just flown into my ear, and wishing desperately that I wont have to repeat it tomorrow (which I will have to if it doesn't rain).

So, what better frame off mind could one be in to start their 24 hour comic? For starters, I can't stir the energy to write a script, so I'm asking a huge favour from you. Please write my comic's script!

No, not the whole thing. All I need is a bunch of random lines, one or two each, that I can try my best to weave into a semi-coherent story. If you're not sure what I'm talking about, check out my last year's 24 hour comic. That's what I'm talking about, only last year's rubbish was too easy! I can't qualify for prizes due to the fact I live amongst rice fields and every one knows rice fields don't have addresses, so I might as well have some fun anyway.

I plan to start Sunday, around 6pm AEST (or a few hours earlier if it's raining where you are). Please give me something to work with, otherwise it'll be 16 pages of expressionless fish!

I've shelved the previous plan and will just do an ordinary comic.

I started at 8:30pm Japan time, 9:30pm AEST. The words are mountainous, balk and windmill.

Don't ask me where this is going. My brain had checked out before I'd even began. I guess working a 14 hour day, and then a 10 hour day is bad preparation for this event. Add to that I spent most of the time hanging out with some folks from China and Myanmar, trying to communicate with them in Japanese because we had no other common language, it gives some idea where my head's at. Sometimes I forget where on the planet I am....

These pages brought to you by Euroglider's "Heaven", Flower's "Icehouse" and hunters and Collector's "Edge of Nowhere". Tired. Having trouble focusing. Going to bed.

Next move? Any suggestions?

Well, Dave, with his arms up like that, his privates are rather, erm, exposed are they not?

Lovely art so far - I hope it rains for you tomorrow so you don't have to get another bug in your ear....

I agree with Jen- I think an "Instant Farmer"* is required!

Sorry, but due to changing circumstances, I'm unable to complete my comic. All I could do was finish off a final, partially finished page and try to end it the best I could. This ending is bad. Really, really bad.

Cute ending... pity about it not being the one you wanted to do.

This year, with very few exceptions, I decided not to read any of the works in progress and just wait until the weekend was over to read the finished products, which was unfortunate in this case, otherwise I surely would have suggested a few random lines for you at the start - I liked how you used the ideas last year.

A shame you had to wrap this one up prematurely - you were creating a very tense atmosphere before that last page. And that girl's expression on page 7 when she's talking about blowing up his dog is just perfect - horribly unbelievably cruel and callous, but perfect.
