The Artist Within.

The Artist Within.

Boing Boing brought this to my attention.

Image
The Artist Within is a book of photos of Artists in their workspaces. Le Preview.
I like seeing where artists work, and others do too, so I don't feel like too much of a weirdo but I forget where the blog is that is just of Illustrators and their work spaces, but anyway, My point is this book is done by Dark Horse and any book with Jack Kirby and Ed Roth next to each other on the cover is pretty cool.

Actually, we should have a thread of people's workspaces. Get photographing people.

Okay, I'll start.
I've left out my computer terminal desk as it just has my scanner and some notepads, CD player and phone and my work calendar above it (and is therefore pretty boring).

I've added text to show what all my crap is so hope that helps. I also felt this was the right time to show this as my partner and I are moving in the next couple of weeks to make room for our little baby who is arriving sometime in September. And so, this work area, where I have created some of my best work to date (and some lame crap too) will disappear into the past forever, only to be retrieved by viewing this thread.

Enjoy then, this future time capsule.

Image
This is my paint-station, where much of my watercolour and acrylic work is executed. I need more space for this close work though as I have no real leg-room in this area.

Image
This is where most of my drawing work is done. From animation to caricature to comic work to writing rude letters to strangers, it all happens here. The light box was 'borrowed' from TAFE in 1999 and never returned. It still runs like a sweet dream too. The inspiration wall is actually the reverse of a wardrobe in which I store board games, National Geographics and hard-core German pornography.

Image
This is a bit stupid to throw in as there's not much going on, but it does show the carpet which covers the horribly uneven concrete floor. My partner Becc had the fantastic idea of buying 50cm x 50cm carpet squares and covering the entire floor in them. They look great and add life to what may be a dismal area without them. This is how we've managed to work under our house for the last three years without being driven insane by plain concrete. Warmer too.

So that's wheres I's works.
I'll post the new studio when it gets completed in a month or so.

Awesome! (And I wanna see some of those unsold paintings!)

Cactus, bought time to see a new pic of your digs too. :)

Here's an updated pic(s) of my little world. If you wanna see and earlier version which tells what each bit is (pre-iMac), go here: http://flickr.com/photos/tankgrrl/432937661/
(yes, it's computer-heavy, but both of us are involved in computing-related professions, so it's only natural)

Bobby is _clearly_ the most organized of us all.
A clear fan of what they call these days "GTD".

tryin to get this in before comikaze madness starts [too late?]

the first 2 spaces are in the shed which i like to call my "studio" but really its just a shed with carpet
Image
hand made drawing table. i don't use this as much as i should. really only for bigger projects like A3 or A2 stuff.

Image
ok so i don't create comics here, i lose!. but allot of other stuff does go on like paintings and mdf creations [4 on the go, not one finished]

Image
computer or "procrastination inducing device"

Image
i do most of my work out of this bag. I'll take it to a cafe and it usually has everything i need. in fact looking at this pic its missing a few things... damn i lose again

thanks for your time. and Maggie i am soooooooo jealous of your marker collection.
