Design a Ledger Award...

Postby Gary Chaloner on Mon May 28, 2007 1:50 pm

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for ideas for a plaque or statuette to be used as the physical Ledger Award. If anyone has any ideas or has the time to draw up some thoughts, please post them here. If more than a few come in, a vote can be organised as to which one is the most popular and I'll move to get them made.

I've been thinking about this for ages, but have been unable to come up with a nice design, so I thought I'd put it out there.

Cheap shots and scatty humour will more than likely be ignored (but you never know your luck). ;)

Thanks!

A golden lightbox with maybe a rule or pencil on it – a nice compact design and not too high to sit on a shelf also robust enough to post.

If you wanted to add some comic cheese to it add a LED so it goes on and off as sporadically as an Australian illustrator ;)

I think just a simple book type trophy would be nice, like the center top, or far left-middle

Trophy's are a bit much.
Why not the winning book, nicely matted, proffesionally framed and a small plaque engraved with the ledger logo and the winning award below it?

Like when a record goes gold or platinum.
It's compact, relatively inexpensive and would look a lot nicer hanging on your wall than a nic nacky dime a dozen trophy.

I'm willing to donate my old Ozcon awards ... you can just scrape my name off and re-use it!

I've got a whole box of plastic that just chews up space. I like the idea of the nicely produced book, although I'd be tempted to go sans frame, so you can put it on the wall or in your bookshelf depending on space and inclination.

I'm also fond of blocks of wood that are actual blocks of wood, that way they can double as toys for small children or grown ups that like building towers!

I actually think the most useful thing to represent an award won would be a small graphic, maybe shaped like a medal (similar to what an award winning DVD or wine maker would use on their products), that gives every winning creator, retailer & publisher a simple & uniform way to publicize their win on their websites, printed on the covers of their books, etc. It totally lacks the warm fuzzy feeling a physical award would give but it would do more to increase visibility and awareness for the ledger awards & local industry. Maybe something to consider in addition to Doug's good suggestion for a physical award? See attached medal images as an idea.
