Okay, here comes some negativity.
While I think it's probably a good thing if the Ledgers get going again, it's no secret that I have a lot of issues with them, the latest one being that
winning past Awards hasn't been enough to secure a place for artists in the Wikipedia (some I've added have been deleted almost purely on the lack of credibility of these awards, which is a pity).
They started off well, but the inconsistent categories of the Awards year-to-year, the eventual Jury system of granting awards, the growing focus on U.S. commercial (over Australian independent) comics in the categories, and the there and gone website all became major problems,in my opinion.
I'm pleased to see that the Australian Cartoonists' Association has created a category for
Comic Book Artist in this year's Stanley Awards (long ago they had a similar category), though not enough people seem to want to spend money to join this professional organisation.
It'd be good if we had something that represented all of the Australian comics scene - with a local focus - consistently year-to-year.
The Ledger Awards are a good idea, but most bad ideas begin that way...
