And it's over for another year

Postby mark selan on Mon Jun 13, 2005 11:17 pm

Everyone interest in prizes should have finished by now and have there pages up.
Everyone who wanted to mail their entry by the post should have asked for a mailing address by now
And everyone who wanted to email me their entry should have their comic in my inbox.

I think the turnout was great and the standard of quality blows my mind. I'm slowly going through the entries but looking forward to going through every single one of them.

thanks everyone who dipped ink, dragged graphite, pushed pixels and created comics, you are all beautiful people. yes, even you.

So next is me compiling, scanning and uploading entries to the Entries page.

in previous years I've created html files that call a image locations into a template. (see the archive page for an example)
but with the number of entries i won't be doing that. i'll be linking to the forum pages.

Except for entries that i compile (ones that i scan and compile)

Unless you post in your thread some code that'll look like this (use the code button)

Code: Select all
<?php
$artist='Mark Selan';
$title='Totally POV Comics';
$pageimages = array(
   1 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel1.gif",
   2 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel2.gif",
   3 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel3.gif",
   4 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel4.gif",
   5 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel5.gif",
   6 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel6.gif",
   7 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel7.gif",
   8 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel8.gif",
   9 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel9.gif",
   10 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel10.gif",
   11 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel11.gif",
   12 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel12.gif",
   13 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel13.gif",
   14 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel14.gif",
   15 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel15.jpg",
   16 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel16.jpg",
   17 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel17.jpg",
   18 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel18.gif",
   19 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel19.gif",
   20 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel20.gif",
   21 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel21.gif",
   22 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel22.jpg",
   23 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel23.jpg",
   24 => "http://www.addnoise.com/mark/24/marsel24.jpg"
   )

?>

Then change the relative details.

Then the next step is for you to check your link on the entries page and let me know if anything is wrong.

Then, most importantly, read as many entries as possible.

I'll put up a poll and then people will vote. A winner will be announced.
Hopefully the poll will be up by next weekend.
The poll will be open for 3-5 days.

OK, again thanks for entering and check back at pulp faction for updates.

Also, if you are new to australian comics; PhaseTwo are having a sale for people who have registered for the challenge. See this thread for moe details.

Is it preferable to use the code, or just leave the comics in the forum?

I also (attempted to) put code on my thread.

Did I mention that you rock, Mark?

That's a good question. I think I might prefer to leave my comics in the forums so that people can read my rambling sleep deprived comments.
Although, the forum pages are modem killers...

Oh, yeh, Mark, I also think you rock. I had tons of fun! And headaches!

Thanks Mark. This was an awesome baptism of fire. I only discovered Scott McCloud's 24 hour comic concept like 2 weeks ago and only discovered this comp on wednes or thurs last week so to dive into it was challenging and fun.

:: points up :: That code will only work if you're storage allows off-site linking, won't it? Cause if so, i'm afraid mine will have to be left in the forum ^^;

Not sure if this is the right spot to ask this/point this out - or even the right time - but with the ozcomics.com domain being given to phasetwo.com how will this affect the 'naming' of the challenge next year?
On one hand it will make Phase Two look like the major sponsor (other sponsors may not like this) or it may push Phase Two into becoming the major sponsor.
On the other hand, it may be a great sponsorship opportunity for next year with renaming rights.
The only reason to keep the 'ozcomics' in the challenge title that I can see is 'tradition' and I'm not sure that's really a good enough reason.

and btw I love Phase Two, this is not a comment on phase two just a comment on keeping 'ozcomics' in the challenge title.

MakePeace - all that needs to be discussed. i'm hoping that it stays the Ozcomics 24 hour challenge, because its all about Oz and comics. Also, getting more traffic to the Phasetwo people can only be good for everyone.

But i need to speak to Gavin, Maggie, Simon, Graeme and any sponsors before we know how it will all work.

People's ideas are always welcome

Legally speaking, so long as no one's registered OzComics as a business name or trademark, it doesn't matter who the 'holder' is because it's not registered, which means it's up for grabs.

With that being said, I do wholey recommend that the OzComics mag team trademark it, and that way it's officially tied to the magazine, rather than a person or website.
