Project Wonderful

...Is pretty good, I've just decided to crack it out and see how it goes. There's some free (and next to free) slots on my site if anyone is interested.

Who's using it anyway? Be keen to hear what other people think about it, not just from the money making side of things but the overal advertising side of it.

I'm still learning my way around it but seems really user friendly

Project wonderful is pretty neat as far as it goes, i have had a couple of issues with it though:

+ They aren't as fussy with who they let start an account as I would like them to be. (At least last time I checked) there were quite a few borderline pornographical sites, and some actual pornography. And a whole bunch of shit sites selling friendster themes and myspace widgets. Which may or may not be fine, but I am not terribly interested in giving any of them my money so it makes it tricky for me to start a 'campaign' and make sure none of my ads end up there. I either have to hand bid on sites I do want to support, or spend aages setting up a proper filter. I have had a couple of emails with their support guys and this kind of thing seems to be getting better.

+ I put up an ad box on my site for a while, but had the same problem in reverse, I am so low-traffic / low-profile that the kind of ads I end up with are exactly the kind of ads I don't really want. And they were pretty ugly. I was making like maybe 1 or 2 cents a day so it really wan't worth the eyesore. If you are a more popular site (and it's probably hard not to be) you might have more luck.

+ This is a real small issue, but as a web developer it bothers me that the markup and code that there widget generates is ugly.

It is still pretty good in theory, and probably makes more sense for largely image based sites like a wbcomic that won't get much sense out of a contextual ad service like google's.

I considered it briefly for OzTAKU, but thought it would just be easier to go straight to businesses that were relevant and see if they had an affiliation program.
I've found J-list and Play-Asia suite me well enough... although no one ever seems to buy, and cookie expires after 24 hours, so if people DO go back, we don't credited for a sale :(

I've been using PW for a couple of months on my comic and I've found it useful for what I use it for. Basically the whole point of me starting up the account was to use the sparse funds that it generated to then advertise my comic on other sites and thus far it's been working pretty well. I make a few cents a day, and spend a couple of cents a day, meaning that my advertising pretty much pays for itself which was exactly what I was going for. Unless you're a VERY high profile site such as Questionable Content or Penny Arcade etc you're never going to get rich from it, but if you're just looking for something to supplement your own advertising spending then it's fairly good.

Just a quick question out of interest. I have only put 4 small button ads on my site, what size/type of ad boxes do the people here who use it have running?

If you hit my site you have 4 buttons and a skyscraper, I'm going to experiment and ad more this weekend and see how it goes. The bigger ads are obviously better than the tiny buttons (when it comes to buying space too, far more clicks from the skyscraper and leaderboard ads)

I think you're a bit off target with the QC and PA comment there, if you search project wonderful you'll see you can be a mid level guy and make a few bucks a day, easily. I think if you're looking to get 'rich' from it, you're looking at it the wrong way, but as a supplement it does its job

Oh yeah, I agree. I more meant that the QC ads that Jeph run go for $20+ a day in comparison to the few bucks a day that most other comics might make.

I haven't tried putting any of the larger ads on my site as of yet. I've thought about it, but have been trying to avoid it for as long as possible. Thinking I might stick one of the large banners down the bottom at some stage though to see how that goes.
