Kris Kringle

Postby Demongoldfish on Thu Dec 07, 2006 2:21 pm

just wondering if anyone was interested in doing a Kris Kringle [aka secret Santa] over the forums?

i was thinking it could be done 1 of 3 ways [poll]

1. plain and simple 10ish dollar gift sent thru the mail to the person you received.

2. this is more in the spirit of these forums i think. an original artwork created for the person you received sent via email or post. this option is probably easier and cheaper for most people and would also make it easier to include overseas members [ i cant remember if phreak has moved yet :D]

3. a combination of the 2 where either a gift or artwork is fine.

I would be more than happy to set this up and run it but am also happy to hand it over to anyone who thinks they can do it :D

oh and if this is being done already and i somehow missed it then whoops :D

I think the artwork idea is a good one (I was going to suggest something similar but then thought I'd probably left it too late what with all the hecticness of Christmas) - I think it'd probably want to be done by email seeing its not that long till christmas. ( maybe people could send the pics to one central person and then they could get posted up here so everyone could see them.)

The only issue I see with the artwork is the whole time/cost/effort of it...
I mean, I'd probably draw something on some A4 cartridge in pencils and charcoal or ink... but someone else might do this huge arse canvas deal... in oils... that get smeared by AusPost...
Then we both lose, cause they spent ages and heaps of money, and I got a smudgey piece of crap...

Maybe we should set a time or material cost limit on said artwork?
Like nothing that takes more than 3-4 hours

well i would think that no one should really be spending more than 3 hours on it. just a small piece inspired by or some relation to the person they have recieved. I'm think it would probably be best if all where sent thru email and if anyone wished to post them physically they could do so in their own time etc.

as for quality i suppose it will be just like any office Kris Kringle where you may spend an hour selecting the perfect gift and making sure you spend the right amount for your person only to receive a second hand Christmas mug that has clearly had the handle glued back on several times. its all more in the spirit of giving rather than receiving.

anyway to get thing moving along can anyone who is interest please PM me over the weekend, including your best email address. if we have enough people by Monday [lets say at least 6] then i will put them in a hat and draw them randomly, with 3 government officials to witness. once thats all done i will get back to you with your person.

Well, I'm down for it. I'll probably do some fanart of one of my fav old school comics.
Might be a good time to play with that airbrush kit I knicked from my art supply stocks heheh.

Not to worry - we should have a Christmas card/drawing thread instead.

That's not such a bad idea, Tonia.
Maybe link them to print quality files so we can actually download each others cards and use them as postcards or some such...

First smartarse to say "ho,ho,ho" gets a smack across the chops.
