Badge Making

Postby Dean Rankine on Tue Mar 28, 2006 2:25 pm

I'm toying with the idea of doing some badge making. Does anyone have any ideas about buying (I have no idea how much they'd be to buy) and / or hiring a badge making machine. I'm in Melbourne.

Dean, there's a shop under Flinders.st Station called Sticky (it's a zine store) just near all those trendoid clothing stores.
They have a badge machine in there that you can use for $0.35 per badge that you make and/or screw up, and they're on a 35mm die (means you need a pic that's 35mm to fill the thing up, with a 44mm circle cut so that there's bleed and wrap around)
With that in mind, leave it alone this Thursday, cause that's when I'm making badges.

Alternatively, you can take all the hardwork out of it (trust me, it REALLY is hard work if you're gonna make more than 50) by going to http://www.numberonechicken.com/
Minimum order is 100 for $0.70 a unit (they're on 24mm too), but it takes ALL the work out of it for you, and they get cheaper the more you order.
Considering zinesters are generally stupid enough to pay $3 for a 24mm badge, let alone the 35mm, I'd say the $70 is money well spent if you've got it lying around.

Cafepress do badges as well (the cost is quite reasonable, the one's I got are good quality and you can make just one badge, but the postage is expensive because it's overseas) Very easy to do though and you can order ten badge lots for a discount as well. I'd suggest doing the smaller size badges as they seem to be what the kids are wearing these days.

For what it's worth, the base prices are $1.25/1, $10/10, and $75/100, all plus S/H, if you go through CP.
