Chris: That's cool about the hijacking. I do the same thing to other people... often at knifepoint!

It certainly seems that LuLu has the better deal in so far as print.
Do people think that this is better, both from a producer's and consumer's point of view, than the ability to get subsidiary merchandise?

Well, since you own complete copyright of all the stuff you publish and produce with these companies, can't you just use both for whatever purpose you need them.

The only downside is that it might confuse consumers, and you can't exactly cross promote the products at the competitors website. But from your own website you could provide links to both POD websites, one for the books, one for the merchandise.

...unless there's some clause which stops you from doing this.

I'd go with Lulu as well, and chris put me down for one of those books as well :)

What was the price difference for full colour internals between Lulu and ComixExpress?

[quote="ChrisWahl"] Zero Assassin [quote]

Hey Chris,
Glad you mentioned this (sorry Ego) I???ve just picked up Zero Assassin issue #1 at a 2nd hand shop and was wondering a couple of things
1. Is there any back issue stuff available?
2. Is the Autohead guy still around under a different alias (sorry if it???s a real name)

The first story featuring Machiavelli has me interested ??

I???d also be queuing up if you publish anything??.

Hi Anomic

To answer your questions

1. I was never directly involved with Zero Assassin or Issue One comics, so I'm not sure where you'd get other issues, saying that though...
2. Max Autohead was actually Sam Young, he's drifted from the comic scene, but he'd probably have back issues.

BTW, if anyone has Sam's email address can you PM me. I need to get copyright permission off him to reprint my Zero, Cyberswine work.

Actually, an interesting compromise is to go Lulu with your publishing, andthen use CafePress for your merchandising...

While we're on the subject of print on demand, has anyone heard of, or investigated, either of these?

comiXpress (no longer hugely backlogged) and ka-blam are the best.

Yeah, ComiXpress seems to be the way to go, although they don't seem to be offering international shipping, and no one's gotten back to me on it.

I'm assuming you've used Ka-Blam, Wraith?
Ka-blam worries me a little in that they ONLY take TIFF, no PDFs, and that your colour work needs to be in RGB. To me it sounds like they have a big print press, but no computer to run it from, just the things own internal software, which is designed for mush heads.

UDOprinting looks ok, although I'd prefer to see something that they've actually made before thinking about it too much.

Laocorn: Apparently they'll do things up to 400 pages...

I haven't used ka-blam, but heard good things about them from people who have. I use comiXpress myself, never had a problem with them. The Wraith #0 printed through comiXpress.

Yes, they do thicker books too, and now affordable colour.

Apparently RapidPOD is pretty good too, though I haven't used them myself
