Doug Holgate Interview

Postby maggie on Sun Apr 17, 2005 8:36 pm

A new interview is up. This one with Doug Holgate and presided over by previous interviewee Christian Read. (and, yes, I hope this is a trend)

You can read it here.

And... all I'm gonna say is this: There's more than meets the eye.

Christian/Doug, well done!

I was wondering where the thread for this would be - while I don't love Doug :) it's a bloody good interview: it flows well, contains plenty of sound insight and a good roundup of the current state of the scene (or whatever you want to call it) in this country, with plenty of information about art techniques, looking for markets, etc.

Doug, thanks for mentioning OzTAKU - I hate the way the manga/doujinsi tends to get left out when people talk about Australian comics.

Cheers,

Ian T.
(That wildlife illustration job would be the "Menagerie" card-game, which is still currently on sale in Australian Geographic shops as far as I know.)

Cheers, Ian.

Doug and I talk frequently about this stuff, so it was a pretty easy interview to do. We really should have just taken bodies of drunken emails, sloppily cut and paste them into one text and called it done.

Glad you liked it.

Nice work guys.

But it fell a bit short. I guess i was hoping for more. But you left me wanting more rather then being bored or annoyed by any pompous verbal wank.

Great read and cool interview. Always cool to hear/read other fellow creator's thoughts and their own opinions on creativity and love of sequential art.

I read the interview fairly quickly like at 3am while on a break from my projects, so I'll have to go back and read it in detail and look for those easter eggs! :)

Anyway, good stuff Doug and Christian!!

No I didn't. I tortoured Holgatet until he gave me the secrets.
And it was WELL worth the tears, feces and blood!

Very neat!!
