Back Issues: An Exhibition of Alternative Brisbane Comic Creators is a showcase of some of the best DIY Alternative Brisbane Comic Creators from the past 15 years.

The Back Issues exhibition will showcase the artwork of over 15 artists who have contributed to Brisbane's alternative comics scene since the mid 1990s.

The show will focus specifically on pages of sequential comic art which have been either self published by the artists or published in other non-mainstream publications.

The opening night for the exhibition is 6pm Friday the 3rd of October at Jugglers Art Space, 103 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley.

There have been many Brisbane based artists who have been bitten by the comic making bug in recent times, the majority of which do it purely for the love of comics with little expectation of financial reward. This in no way means that the work created by these artists is of low quality, in fact some of the most original and eye catching comics being produced in Australia is being made right here in Brisbane.

Two of the longest running and well known Australian comic anthologies, 'Groovy Gravy' and 'Phatsville', have come out of Brisbane. These two titles alone have featured a plethora of alternative comic talent from both Australia and overseas.

There are also comic creators who produce titles featuring their own work who are receiving popular acclaim, including 'Bad Teeth', 'Plump Oyster' and 'Girlie Pains'.

The content of these locally produced comics is not limited to one genre and very rarely feature typical mainstream super hero content.

The goal of Back Issues: An Exhibition of Alternative Brisbane Comic Creators is to present the work of these artists in a cohesive manner, illustrating the path comics in Brisbane has taken since the 1990s and highlighting the influences one creator can have on the next.

It is also our intention to gain recognition for the artists involved in this seemingly ephemeral art form and encourage further interest in it.

Back Issues: An Exhibition of Alternative Brisbane Comic Creators will feature the work of Jase Harper, Glenn Manders, Giles Kilham, L.F. Weber, John Stewart, Ben Constantine, Tonia Walden, Brett Williams, Mike Mungus, Anthony Cheung, Corey Warren, Dan Gibbs, Will Kelly, Mr J, Brett Weekes and Dave Babore.

The exhibition opens from 6pm on Friday the 3rd of October at Jugglers Art Space, 103 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley. The night will feature a live DJ and raffle, including prizes from The Outpost, The Zoo, The Troubadour, The Alibi Room, Dendy and more. Back Issues is also sponsored by Comics Etc.
