I know you were joking cactus, I was just running with it, except for in my last comment. When I'm talking shit to women, telling a story, making an observation, often the ideas I come up with in these situations turn out to be my best stuff, because its when I'm most motivated to impress and get a laugh. I wouldn't tell them I was filing away my comments for later use in a comic, unless they were interested in that kind of crap, or depends on how drunk I am, then I'm likely to say anything.

And damn tootin ya gotta do it for yourself, but I think you've also gotta have other people in mind or why would you bother showing it to anyone?

Muse is just a word, granted it is a wanky one, thats prone to overly romanticised interpretations. I find it hard to believe that no one here is inspired by anything else but themselves. To me that idea is a much wankier one.

For example the subject for your next sci-fi comic? You must have been inspired by robots or space, or Isaac Asimov, or Terminator what ever gives you your kicks, gets your creative juices flowing. The dictionary just says a muse is whatever gives you your inspiration, it can be anything.

I guess any discussion about influences and inspiration tends to have the passive/active thing raised at some stage. Granted I have many passive influences, but right now I don't see many active ones, and so my productivity drops. I am hoping that after my next four days away I will be back up and fighting fit.
Still I think the idea of a partner who is supportive of art in general would be nice. Seems that there are not many people I know in such a situation.

hee! i may be queer and female but my muse is not women.. though i do tend to base my main characters on the current love interests of my life :D

yes, finding a chance to get away from modern day distractions is very tricky to manage, but for me it's sometimes very productive. i find that a window looking into the garden and an idling playstation seem to be my muses. (the playstation gives me the illusion i can stop working and this soothes away stress/pressure). also before i work i usually garden for 30 mins.

I find my initial muse is me just wanting to do [/i]something.
And then, if I've created characters that I really like, my muse comes from me not being able to wait to see what they do next.

I love the notion of the Muse. I think its a beautiful idea. The idea that a beautiful woman comes down and inspires us. But sort of ultimately... useless.

I don't think 'creativity' is anything really special. Every man jack one of us on this board has plenty of ideas. This leads to a discussion of 'where do you get your ideas from?' I think that is both a really unimportant question and a hugely important one. My personal belief is that we cobble creation together from our lives, what we experience in them. Be that a desire to impress girls (a motivating factor of art I think is grossly underestimated), the books we read, the tragedies of our lives or a desire to comment.

So I think in that sense, ultimately, we are each our own Muse.

For the record, I get all my inspiration from Terry Brooks, Di Morrisey and Sidney Sheldon.
